Mono no aware

This series (June-September 2024) emerged from a study of Japanese aesthetics in art, which is fundamentally inspired by nature. And this inspiration comes not only from natural imagery and the similarity of lines and forms, but more so from the fleetingness of natural phenomena, moments, and life in general.

The project is my attempt to accept the inevitable and see beauty in it, in other words – to feel mono no aware*.

*Mono no aware – "mono" means "thing," and aware ("sadness, pity, charm") implies a subtle sadness about the transience, the ephemerality of life. Aware also denotes receptivity, sensitivity, openness to understanding the nature of existence – something that is usually realized and accepted with a slight note of melancholy and nostalgia."
